Complete Detailed Analysis & Research Rationale

SOM DISTILLERIES & BREWERIES

(NSE: SDBL)

Business:

Som Distilleries & Breweries is an alcoholic beverages company with a strong presence in beer.

Its portfolio includes beer brands across the value and premium segments, with manufacturing and distribution operations across multiple Indian states.

The company is expanding its geographical footprint, with new capacity in Uttar Pradesh becoming an important part of the next growth phase.

Q1 FY27 Performance šŸ“Š

  • Consolidated revenue ₹609 Cr, down 31% YoY
  • EBITDA ₹15.2 Cr, down 79% YoY
  • PAT ₹1.6 Cr, down 96% YoY
  • Operating margin remained under pressure
  • Earnings were significantly impacted by disruption at the Bhopal facility and higher raw material and packaging costs.

  • So Q1 should not be looked at as a normalised earnings quarter.

    BIG CAPACITY TRIGGER šŸš€

The company has started commercial production at its new Uttar Pradesh beer facility, adding approximately 10 million cases of annual capacity.

This gives SDBL a new manufacturing and market access platform and can become a significant growth driver as utilisation increases.

Management has indicated a FY27 revenue target of around ₹1,000 Cr to ₹1,100 Cr, with the new capacity expected to contribute to the growth journey.

    Growth Triggers:

šŸ“Œ Ramp up of UP capacity

    šŸ“Œ Recovery in Bhopal operations

    šŸ“Œ Higher capacity utilisation

    šŸ“Œ Expansion into new markets

    šŸ“Œ Premium beer growth

    šŸ“Œ Improving product mix

šŸ“Œ Operating leverage as volumes increase

    What I’m Watching āš ļø

The biggest monitorable is whether the new capacity can translate into sustainable margins and cash flow.

Q1 profitability was extremely weak, so simply looking at revenue growth will not be enough.

    I would track:

  • Monthly beer volumes
  • UP plant utilisation
  • Bhopal production recovery
  • EBITDA margin
  • Raw material and packaging costs
  • Working capital and debt
  • Cash generation

  • Overall View:

SDBL is currently a capacity expansion and earnings recovery story.

The new UP facility provides a meaningful growth opportunity, but the company needs to demonstrate that additional capacity can be utilised efficiently and that margins can recover from the current depressed levels.

The key confirmation for me would be volume growth + improving utilisation + sustained EBITDA recovery.
