Q1 FY27 Performance ๐
Revenue โน332 Cr, up 33% YoYEBITDA โน214 Cr, up 45% YoYEBITDA margin around 64%EBIT โน183 Cr, up 58% YoYPAT โน147 Cr, up 46% YoYContainer volumes 1.69 lakh TEUs, up 3%RoRo volumes 65,411 units, up 53%Dry bulk volumes 5.20 lakh MT, down 7%Liquid volumes 2.21 lakh MT, down 47%What Stands Out ๐
RoRo has been a major growth driver, with volumes increasing 53% YoY, supported by higher automobile exports.
Container volumes also remained positive despite the challenging geopolitical environment.
At the same time, dry bulk and liquid cargo were impacted by lower mineral, LPG and fuel oil imports.
Important Point:
The headline Q1 numbers look extremely strong, but there is one thing I would track carefully.
The quarter included around โน81 Cr of SEIS duty credit scrip consideration in operating revenue. Therefore, the reported revenue and margin improvement should not be treated entirely as recurring operational growth.
Long Term Trigger ๐ข
The bigger opportunity is the potential expansion of Pipavav Port.
APM Terminals had announced plans for around $2 billion of investment to expand the portโs capacity and capabilities, subject to securing a long term concession agreement.
If this expansion progresses, it could materially increase the portโs long term cargo handling capacity.
What Iโm Watching โ ๏ธ
๐ Container volume recovery
๐ RoRo export growth
๐ Recovery in liquid and dry bulk cargo
๐ Concession extension
๐ Capacity expansion
๐ Revenue excluding duty benefit income
๐ Sustainability of the high EBITDA margin
Overall View:
GPPL is essentially a play on Indiaโs growing trade, automobile exports and port infrastructure.
The current earnings momentum is strong, while the potential concession extension and expansion provide a longer term trigger.
But I would focus on underlying cargo growth and recurring operating earnings, rather than looking at the headline Q1 profit growth alone.
